The Edgar Thomson Works has loomed over the small borough of Braddock for more than 130 years. The mill, built by Andrew Carnegie and named after the president of the Pennsylvania Railroad, produced it's first heat of steel in 1875. It remains today, a survivor of hard times in the Monongahela Valley.(Library of Congress photograph)
