Thomas Marshall’s plot is the only one marked with a civilian-style headstone, left after the move of the Carlisle Indian cemetery into its new home on the edge of the Carlisle Barracks, as shown on Wednesday, Feb. 26, 2025. The cemetery holds the remains of students who attended the Carlisle Indian Industrial School, a boarding school created to assimilate Native American children into white culture and values.
