The fifth annual Cocktails & Conservation fundraiser for the preservation of the Maxo Vanka murals will be held April 20 at St. Nicholas Croatian Catholic Church in Millvale. The theme is “The Art of Social Justice.”
The evening will begin at 6 p.m. in the church hall with a cocktail reception and auction that will include social justice-inspired art. A dessert reception will follow presentations in the church.
The program will be hosted by Pittsburgh historian, educator and author Brian Butko, whose books include “Kennywood Behind the Screams,” “Diners of Pennsylvania” and “Greetings from the Lincoln Highway.”
Featured will be live music by the Mikey Dee Trio, catering by Iron Oven Catering, cocktails by the Ladies United for the Preservation of Endangered Cocktails, beers from Vecenie Distributing Co. and a Social Justice Art Auction. The dessert reception, by the St. Nicholas Bakers and Tupelo Honey Teas, will feature hundreds of homemade desserts.
The event is sponsored by the Society to Preserve the Millvale Murals of Maxo Vanka. Tickets, $100, may be ordered at http://vankamurals.org/cocktails-and-conservation-2018.
