Fish fries are synonymous with the advent of the 40-day Lenten period. Churches, social halls, volunteer fire departments and restaurants swing into action to feature fried or baked fish sandwiches, dinners and platters. But the menu does not stop with just fish; it also includes sides such as haluski, pierogies, stewed tomatoes and applesauce.
