In this time of COVID-19, dusk brings a profound stillness to the North Boroughs.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

Gone is the whoosh of traffic along Ohio River Boulevard and the rumble of distant trains. Volunteer firefighters no longer linger at stations. Borough meeting halls are empty. Even the night sky is silent. No airliners roar overhead.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

Walk under the streetlights of Bellevue, Avalon, Ben Avon and Emsworth and you\u2019ll hear little but your own footfalls and the soft sound of a breath going in, a breath going out. It is at once haunting and peaceful. It is a reminder of our capacity to be individually fragile yet collectively resilient.<\/span><\/p>\n
