March 16, 1986: This photograph shows Dr. Herbert Simon in his office at Carnegie Mellon University.

Dr. Simon joined the Carnegie Institute of Technology in 1949 and began working with G.L. Bach, William W. Cooper, and others to create the Graduate School of Industrial Administration. Their goal was “to place business education on a foundation of fundamental studies in economics and behavioral science.”

In 1978, Dr. Simon was awarded the Nobel prize in economics. The computer expert was recognized “for his pioneering research into the decision-making process within economic organizations.”
