Sept. 21, 1964: This is how the Post-Gazette used Morris Berman’s photographs the day after the Steelers defeated the Giants 27-24 at Pitt Stadium. The now-famous image of bloodied Giants quarterback Y.A. Tittle on his knees in the end zone wasn’t used. Editors believed it was too static. Still, the photograph went on to win a number of awards and had a tremendous impact on sports photography by showing the value of images made before or after moments of action.
