If you ask a Pittsburgher where to find best pancakes in the city, the answer most likely would be, \u201cAt Pamela\u2019s.\u201d<\/p>\n

It\u2019s a signature breakfast diner of the \u2018Burgh, which would, for sure, impress any pancake connoisseur with its buttery crepe-thin flapjacks\u2026 a mountain of whip creme on top and its genuine Pittsburgh diner feel. \u00a0Ask Barack Obama. He was there in 2008, on a campaign visit \u2014 \u00a0just goes to show you: it\u2019s not some sort of a dinky place.<\/p>\n

First Lady Michelle Obama cleaned up her plate at Pamela\u2019s in 2009, while Obama, already the president, was \u201cresentful he didn\u2019t get to Pamela\u2019s.\u201d But people understood, he must have gotten too busy solving world\u2019s economic problems with other world leaders during the G-20 Summit happening in Pittsburgh at the time (If you remember, there were plenty of those\u2026 economic problems that is). Owners of Pamela\u2019s are not shy about their accomplishment: \u201cSince 1980 we\u2019ve been serving the best breakfast in Pittsburgh,\u201d they announce on their website. \u00a0Translation: Pamela\u2019s. Is. The. Best. (Sorry, Weight Watchers).<\/p>\n

Not just because of the best breakfast though. Pamela\u2019s diner has \u00a0been on the Pittsburgh market for more than 30 years, which means that it was part of the \u2018Burgh when it was not so cool. To top it off, Pamela\u2019s, although it\u2019s now considered a chain diner, is locally owned. AND the owners are two successful women, who came up with a concept of a quintessential Pittsburgh breakfast place in 1979. The official name of Pamela\u2019s is Pamela\u2019s P&G Diner, or, P&G\u2019s Pamela\u2019s Diner where \u201cP&G\u201d stands for first-name initials of the owners, Pam Cohen, the mastermind behind the kitchen, and Gail Klingensmith, the entrepreneurial spirit behind the venture.<\/p>\n

The first Pamela\u2019s opened in Squirrel Hill. Business was doing well. Today there are six Pamela\u2019s in the Pittsburgh area<\/a>: in Shadyside, Oakland, Millvale, Mt. Lebanon, the Strip District and the flagship location.<\/p>\n

The Wall Street Journal recently listed visiting Pamela\u2019s as one of the \u201cthings to do\u201d in Pittsburgh. Do it.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
