This stunning picture is a mystery. On the back of the print, in barely legible handwriting, is a date: Dec. 15, 1951. We checked our microfilm and found no evidence that the image was published that day. In fact, it looks to us like the picture was made in warm weather, when trees and other greenery covered many of the city\u2019s hillsides.<\/p>\n

No other information was attached to the print. The image does appear to show Pittsburgh during the Korean War era. Perhaps it was made during an air show or some other display of U.S. military might. One of our photographers suggests it may be a composite picture.
