The project is still active with a mission statement dedicated to promoting participation of African Americans\u00a0in local, state, and national elections:\u00a0\u201cIt\u2019s a LIFETIME COMMITMENT: African Americans VOTE in each and every election!\u201d Mr. Stevens has been a prominent advocate for civil rights in the Pittsburgh community. He\u00a0served as both executive director and president of the Pittsburgh branch of the NAACP.<\/p>\n<p>This photograph was taken before the 1988 presidential election between Republican George H.W.
