This proof sheet shows photographs taken of Sen. Goldwater leaving the Penn-Sheraton Hotel and speaking at a Civic Arena rally, where the photographer was on stage, behind the candidate.<\/p>\n<p>The photo in the third row (from above) of the proof sheet, which is marked with the red grease pencil (often used to mark the best images), appeared on the front page of The Pittsburgh Press with the caption, \u201cGoldwater \u2018watches\u2019 19-minute ovation.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Security inside and outside the Civic Arena was tight,\u00a0with what the The Pittsburgh Press, described as \u201cminor\u201d disruptions.\u00a0\u201dPolice said two anonymous \u2014 and apparently tipsy \u2014 callers made phone threats to the Arena switchboard. One claimed there was a bomb planted in the auditorium. The other threatened harm to singer Barbara McNair if she took part in the Goldwater festivities.
