These four\u00a0players provided much of the team\u2019s offensive punch and were thus named\u00a0the \u201cDream Backfield.\u201d From left are halfback Harold \u201cCurley\u201d\u00a0Stebbens, fullback Marshall Goldberg, halfback Dick Cassiano and\u00a0quarterback John Chicerneo.<\/p>\n<p>In \u201838, the Panthers finished 8-2. Goldberg, runner-up for the Heisman\u00a0Trophy, was named All-American. He established a Pitt rushing record\u00a0that stood until Tony Dorsett came along in 1974, and played several\u00a0seasons for the NFL\u2019s Chicago Cardinals.<\/p>\n<p>On the front of the \u201cDream Backfield\u201d envelope is stamped this admonition: \u201cDo not allow anyone\u00a0to use these without consulting\u00a0management.\u201d Why management insisted upon being consulted about use of\u00a0the \u201cDream Backfield\u201d pictures is one of the PG archive\u2019s enduring\u00a0mysteries.<\/p>\n<p><em>Want to know more about Pitt\u2019s \u201cDream Backfield\u201d?
