Not much to say about these photos, except that we\u2019re glad they exist.<\/p>\n

The first \u2014 Andy Starnes\u2019 1975 Pittsburgh Press capture of a Grandview Park performance against the skyline \u2014 is simply magnificent.<\/p>\n

In digitizing the Post-Gazette\u2019s photo library, we came across the massive (nearly a foot thick) file of Pittsburgh Ballet Theatre images. A majority are all too bland and similar: indoor theater performances or rehearsals in studios lined with railings.<\/p>\n

Not all that exciting when you realize there are upwards of 500 of these.<\/p>\n

But these six stood out because of the settings.<\/p>\n

Unfortunately, the outdoor ventures seemed to tail off after the 1970s.<\/p>\n
