The Digs first went live more than two years ago.<\/p>\n

Since then, we\u2019ve brought you nearly 500 stories featuring thousands of photographs. We love Tumblr and its community. We love your sharing, your feedback, and your expert sleuthing when we don\u2019t know a picture\u2019s full story.<\/p>\n

Tumblr is a great space, and it\u2019s been pretty good for displaying the Post-Gazette\u2019s historic photo collection.<\/p>\n

Still, we knew there was a better way to allow our dedicated community to explore all that we are uncovering. Today, we\u2019re launching a new version of The Digs, complete with every story and photo we\u2019ve posted on Tumblr<\/a> since our August 2012 launch.<\/p>\n

We’re also shifting to a weekly publication schedule, instead of three times per week. With some of these photos and stories, there’s an argument to be made for quality over quantity.<\/p>\n

You can explore posts across five categories: Events<\/a>, Old crime<\/a>, N\u2019at<\/a> (a varied collection of Pittsburgh things), Places and landmarks<\/a> and Sports<\/a>.<\/p>\n

You can browse through topics like photographers, decades, locations and more than 100 other tags, such as Pittsburghers you might not know<\/a>, Things that are gone<\/a>, or “wow” photographs (a staff favorite)<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Soon, we should be able to allow you to browse the collection by location and purchase specific photos.<\/p>\n

We hope you\u2019ll continue to join us on this journey through Pittsburgh history and dig the PG photo archive.<\/p>\n

It\u2019s one of Pittsburgh\u2019s greatest.<\/p>\n

Like the Fort Duquesne Bridge, our new effort will at last enable Pittsburghers to make a faster connection.<\/span><\/p>\n

The best part? We promised it\u00a0wouldn’t\u00a0be a six-year bridge to nowhere. The new site\u00a0was built and made public in less than a month.<\/p>\n
