The Post-Gazette used 2002 assessment figures for this series because a quarter of UPMC's 2013 assessment values are under appeal, and the county is still correcting more than 30,000 errors, some which affect UPMC properties. When using the county's 2013 reassessment values, however, UPMC's land holdings would jump to $2.5 billion, of which 80 percent are tax-exempt.
