A Verizon 4G jetpack hotspot is plugged into an outlet as it sits on the desk in Bethany and Adam Coursen's farm office Wednesday, June 12, 2019, at the Valley Wide Farm in Spring Mills. Internet access is necessary to use the farmÕs Lely Astronaut A4, a robotic milking machine made by the Dutch company Lely. The Coursens moved to the automatic milking system four years ago to stay competitive in a tough market, but were surprised to learn during installation that they would need broadband access to use the equipment. Due to the farmÕs rural location and mountainous topography, broadband access is spotty and weak at best. In addition to the jetpack in the barn, the Coursen family uses a second jetpack hotspot along with a satellite dish in their home for broadband access. Mrs. Coursen estimates their monthly bill is well over $300. (Jessie Wardarski/Post-Gazette)
