Best of 2015 by Michael Henninger

I reflect on 2015 with awe and wonder, as I was fortunate enough to document both our hunk of this space-rock we so lovingly call Pittsburgh, and to take assignments in the Dominican Republic and Cuba that I won’t soon forget. At the beginning of the year, I got to know three Haitian orphans that found permanent homes in Pittsburgh after the devastating earthquake. Toward the end of the year, I was able to spend time with Jim Fogle, the Indiana County man who was exonerated after spending 34 years in prison for murder.

Documentary photography is a collaborative process. It requires trust, faith, and understanding from the subjects as well as the photographer. For that, I want to thank the people in these stories. Even if by telling their tales they accomplished nothing else, they certainly changed me. I can only hope 2016 will bring such meaningful experiences.
