Thousand of fans attended the final night of the 13th Annual Panama Jazz Festival in Panama City Panama. Organized by the Danilo Perez Foundation, the festival spotlights national and international artists, as well as provide clinics and workshops for promising young musicians.Saturday night’s final concert, spotlighted the music of Puerto Rican vocalist Tony Vega, who energized the crowd with some spicy salsa.
Pianist Randy Weston was this year’s honoree. Mr.Weston performed in Pittsburgh in 2015 at the New Hazlett Theater as part of the Kente Arts Alliance’s “Africa Calling” series.
Among tonight’s headliners will be Geri Allen and the MCA Power Trio. Allen is the director of jazz studies at the University of Pittsburgh.
