Pittsburgh has a rich history of architectural ornaments.
They seem to send message with some animals standing guard, human figures symbolizing support or decorative cherubs amusing us.
I really thought I had seen all of them until Point Park University demolished a group of buildings to make way for their new playhouse.
After that was the first time I spotted a large eagle from across the vacant lots looking high over the entrance of 322 4th Ave.
I have only been at the Post-Gazette for 37 years, but have never seen the eagle because I never before had a view from the next street.
