A few attendees were selling Ms. Harris apparel and memorabilia as more gathered along Adams Street. The Rochester resident works in maintenance at a local hotel and said the vice president might be coming here not only to engage with voters but also because of the local history: the famous explorers Lewis and Clark came through Beaver and Fort McIntosh, a structure built during the Revolutionary War era, is nearby. Mr. Cottrill, a retired baker, said the economy is what most concerns him, especially high grocery prices. He said he relishes being in a swing area of a swing state: “It feels great, to be in one of the most important states to decide the election.
