Chuck Cooper III acknowledges the crowd as Duquesne University officially opens the facility named after his father before the team takes on Rider University on Tuesday at UPMC Cooper Fieldhouse in Pittsburgh. Mr. Cooper’s father Chuck was an All-American at Duquesne, and he became the first Black person drafted by an NBA team in 1950. After his NBA career, Chuck Cooper moved back to Pittsburgh, where he held various public service positions. He died
