LeoTraits: Generous, warm-hearted, single-minded, arrogant and self-centered.

You’ll feel less ferocious this year. In February and August, you may see some shifts in the way you perceive yourself. Try to show near and dear ones that despite the bold and proud image you project, you don’t really bite. Ideally you like foods done to your specifications, but when you face reality you gravitate toward easy-to-prepare ones. You like fancy food but only if you are dining out and someone else is treating you.

Eat this: Simple casseroles. Go ahead and top them with shaved truffles, but don’t constantly talk about how much it will cost you.

Not this: You don’t have to stop eating red meat completely, but don’t emphasize it as much.

Shredded Potato Casserole

PG tested

You are looking to emit a gentler vibe and fit in with the crowd this year, so turn to this homey potato casserole. Also, you have a tendency to constantly talk about expenses, and this will put a halt to that.

1 can (10¾ ounces) condensed cream of mushroom, undiluted
16 ounces sour cream
½ cup 2 percent milk
1 cup shredded sharp cheddar cheese
1 package (30 ounces) frozen shredded potatoes, thawed
1 cup cornflakes
¼ cup grated Parmesan cheese
1 tablespoon butter

Preheat oven to 325 degrees.

In a large bowl, combine soup, sour cream, milk and cheddar cheese. Stir in potatoes. Transfer to a greased 13-by-9-inch baking dish.

In a small bowl, combine cornflakes and cheese. Sprinkle over the top of potato mixture. Dot with butter. Bake, uncovered for 45 to 50 minutes, until casserole is heated through.

Serves 6 to 8.
