Initially, the pillars on the Schenley Park side of the Greenfield Bridge over the Parkway East failed to fall after explosive charges dropped the bridge Monday morning. Eight support pillars topped by steel decking finally began to tumble down to the Parkway East after a nudge from an excavator. Crews from the general contractor Mosites Heavy Construction worked around the clock to cleanup the debris from the demolition. By late afternoon Wednesday Interstate 376 westbound is clear of debris and and work is going strong on the eastbound lanes. The debris was sent to Braddock’s the Josh Steel Company yard. Eventually, the steel will then be sent to U.S Steel’s Edgar Thomson Plant in Braddock and the TMK Ipsco plant in Beaver Falls.
