AquariusTraits: Original, independent, temperamental, uncompromising and aloof.

You don’t understand why people say that you are hard to pin down. Could it be your desire to stand out in the crowd? Mercury’s summer retrograde will help you face and clear these relationship issues. Your eclectic style about life applies to your taste buds, too, and you tend to eat foods that the average Joe doesn’t. You enjoy imported olive oils, sushi and well-aged pungent cheeses. But when your palate of the people kicks in, you opt for spaghetti with meatballs.

Eat this: Shareable soups and stews that include super grains to show your originality.

Not this: Just because you enjoy seared octopus with sea urchin aioli or fried rattlesnake doesn’t mean you should serve them at a dinner party.

Quinoa Chili

PG tested

Aquarians have a quirky side, so why not make a chili with quinoa? But also they like to please everybody with known flavors, so add the usual suspects — chili powder, tomatoes, pinto beans and corn, and garnish with cheddar cheese.

2 tablespoons olive oil
2½ teaspoons chili powder
1 cup uncooked quinoa
1 can (14.5 ounces) diced tomatoes
1 can (15 ounces) pinto beans
1 cup frozen corn kernels
Sea salt and freshly ground pepper
2 tablespoons chopped cilantro
½ cup grated sharp cheddar cheese

Heat oil in a pan and toast chili powder and quinoa for 2 minutes.

Add chopped tomatoes, 2½ cups water, beans and corn. Season with salt and pepper. Cook for 20 minutes until quinoa is tender.

Divide between 4 bowls and garnish with cilantro and cheese.

Makes 4 servings.
