Illumination Ovation: Pittsburgh lights up to thank essential workers

People across Pittsburgh and the surrounding area are lighting up their homes and buildings on Tuesdays while applauding frontline workers serving and caring for people during the COVID-19 pandemic. Organizing under the hashtag #LOVEFROMPGH, lights flickered on from apartment balconies to the Cathedral of Learning to Heinz Field to show appreciation for those working to keep help others during the coronavirus pandemic. Organizers plan on continuing the event on Tuesdays at 8 p.m. going forward. “Our goal is really, besides thanking the essential workers, to create a sense of community,” said organizer Evelyn Castillo, who made a heart of lights in her Squirrel Hill window for the event.
