A member of the Pittsburgh Police bomb squad signals other police after examining a backpack at the intersection of Fifth Avenue and Washington Place in the Lower Hill District on Wednesday, May 26, 2021. Police said a man wearing a backpack entered a PNC Bank branch at Washington Place shortly before 12 noon, handed a threatening note to a bank employee, then walked outside and sat on the curb. The bank employee called authorities and reported a robbery. When police arrived, they took the man in custody. The bomb squad was called in to examine the backpack, which the man left on the street. The backpack was examined by a bomb squad robot and was found to contain nothing dangerous.
