A member of the Pittsburgh Police bomb squad signals other police after examining a backpack at the intersection of Fifth Avenue and Washington Place in the Lower Hill District on Wednesday, May 26, 2021. Police said a man wearing a backpack entered a PNC Bank branch at Washington Place shortly before 12 noon, handed a threatening note to a bank employee, then walked outside and sat on the curb. The bank employee called authorities and reported a robbery. When police arrived, they took the man in custody. The bomb squad was called in to examine the backpack, which the man left on the street.
