The Rev. Glenn Grayson looks over evidence envelopes containing items found on his son Jeron X, who was shot and killed a decade ago while attending a party near the California University of Pennsylvania campus. Those items include a watch, an earring, a hairbrush and Life Savers candy. Grayson is deciding which items to include as “remembrance objects” in the The Gun Violence Memorial Project, whose representatives were at the Hill District community center named in honor of Jeron X. Grayson to collect new items for its Washington D.C. exhibition on Friday, Sept. 24, 2021. Those representatives will be in town through Sunday to collect objects honoring those killed in gun violence incidents. The Washington exhibition “serves as a space of remembrance and healing,” according to the organization. Sara Mineo, a co-owner with her brother, Dominic, of Shadyside Market & Deli, hugs a longtime customer during a farewell reception for the Walnut Street landmark on Saturday, Sept. 25, 2021. Ms. Mineo, who will be 69 in October, and her brother, who just turned 68, told the Post-Gazette last month that they were ready to retire. “It’s time,” she said. “That’s what it is.” The market has been a presence on Walnut Street since at least 1946; Joseph Mineo, Dominic and Sara’s father, bought the store in 1952.
