The best journalist he has ever worked with, three-time Pulitzer Prize nominee Deborah Brunner, became his wife in 1986. They have an adult son, Evan, an entrepreneur.
Jim he has worked with more than 300 of the country's best visual journalists as a staff photographer and/or editor at more than half a dozen major news media including the Chicago Sun-Times and The Los Angeles Times.
He was elected twice to the National Press Photographers Association board of directors. He has won major awards. He has published in magazines and books. His work exhibited in museums in 39 countries. His favorite charity is Rancho Santa Marta a school and orphanage in Baja California, Mexico. He joined this staff in 1994.
